Cow Feed
Three months ago, we planted corn as feed for the
cow. The corn we use to replant, but the leaves and stem are good as cow feed.
Along with our crop, we bought up hay from local rice growers, so now we have
enough feed for 10 cows for the year. During the next rain season, we intend to
replant corn, and rice as well. The rice to feed the kids from the village who
come to the center to study. We now have five kids living with us. We mainly
take on kids who want to grow and become free from poverty, which their village
has experienced for generations.
Everyone respond to the victims of the tsunami, but some how fail to look at how
the poor of the world can be given a helping hand. Shri Param has so far spent
most of his earning to make a difference, and yes, it is a challenge, trying to
decide whom we feel really needs help and who do not. He is not looking to save
the world, just those who want a chance to progress.
Since we started the project, we have received in all about 90,000 roepies or
less then 2000 Euro.
To maintain the project we need about 600 rupees per day, which is about 12
Euro. This is just to feed the kids and pay wages. To run the project
comfortably we need 750 per day and these expenses can be met when we can
produce about 100 liters of milk. To achieve this we need 11 milking cows, we
have three now, and need another eight cows. Each cow will cost about 15,000
rupees, which is about 300 Euro each.
Few weeks ago due to limited finance, we decided to buy six new calves instead
of milking cows, that will produce milk in 18 months, when these calves grow up,
they will produce quality and quantity due to the care and feed they get. In the
mean time we still need 10 milking cows, and by the time our calves produce
milk, the present milking cows will have reduced their production and ready to
be pregnant.
