The boys are having fun preparing for Diwali

The children of Killankulam say ”thank you” to everybody
who has made a donation to make their Diwali great this year again!!.
There was dosa (savory pancake) and Idly (savory dumpling) to eat and a lot of
sweet and savory. The boys who lived here made some special savory the night
before. It was a very short night for them since they had to wake up at 3:00 in
the morning to start launching the fireworks. There was plenty and when kids
from the village joined them, they all had a good time.
In the afternoon, the doors opened to watch on the color TV one of the famous
movies being broadcasted especially on Diwali. At night, again a lot of
firecrackers and rockets ended their very short but fiery lives accompanied by
the sounds of excited children voices.
In the weeks before Diwali, more and more children from the village came when
word was out that we gave away children cloths and toys donated by Angelique and
Sibylle. It was nice to see the children walk away in a nice clean dress or
shirt and big teddy bear. Watch the pictures you might see something you
recognize!!
If you have, any good children cloths left and do not know what
to do with it, please pack it and send it to us, for it will bring some joy in
the children's life here.
From the donations that we got, the boys who are living here all got new cloths
because that is the tradition here. On Diwali day, it is the tradition to take
an oil bath that will draw out the heat in your body.. After that, you wash
yourself with siakkai, which is a deep cleansing fruit that when boiled becomes
soft. After finishing this, you wear your new cloths and feel like being reborn,
ready to take on the challenges life will give you in the coming year!
The kids here are ready to face the challenges life will give them this year,
will you help them to make these challenges a bit more easy and joyful?
Donations: will make the challenges they have to face easier.
By mid next year, we would like to start building a school for
the less fortunate in this area of Tamil Nadu. We would like to build a school
where the children are being thought in a loving way, where art, dance, Sanskrit
and ancient history of India as well as personal hygiene, respect and
cleanliness are part of the schools agenda next to the regular subjects.
The kids will learn Hindi and English as their second languages that will give
them the change to work through out India, which will provide them more
opportunities then what the system has made available to them. Schools in Tamil
Nadu do not offer Hindi due to the bad judgment of politicians. Hindi is the
most commonly used language in the rest of India.
So far, we have had an offer from Holland to financially help build a
playground!! That is a beautiful offer being made just a couple of days after
Diwali!
The total costs to make a beautiful and lasting playground on more then an acre
and half will be 3900 euro only!!
